How much protein per meal on a GLP-1 medicine?

When Ozempic, Wegovy or Mounjaro shrink your appetite, the meals get small and protein is usually the first thing to go short. Put in your weight and how many times you actually eat; you get a daily target and a per-meal number you can plan around.

Where the numbers come from

The May 2025 joint advisory from the American College of Lifestyle Medicine, the American Society for Nutrition, the Obesity Medicine Association and The Obesity Society suggests 1.2 to 1.6 g of protein per kg of body weight a day while losing weight on a GLP-1 medicine, or 80 to 120 g a day, plus strength training at least three times a week. The calculator starts you at the lower end and keeps it inside that 80 to 120 g band, because the upper end is hard to eat with a small appetite.

The why and the how, with a four-plate example day: Eating on Ozempic, Wegovy or Mounjaro: protein first.

General information, not medical advice. If you have kidney disease, protein targets are different: ask your doctor before raising your intake. Talk to your prescriber before changing your diet, especially with diabetes treated with insulin or sulfonylureas.
